GreatSchools.org’s ‘Like a Sponge’ Nominated for Best Science & Education Podcast in the 26th Annual Webby Awards
Now through April 21, listeners can vote for parenting podcast to win the Internet’s top honor
OAKLAND, CA (April 6, 2022) — Educational nonprofit GreatSchools announced today that an episode of its parenting podcast, Like a Sponge, has been nominated in the 26th Annual Webby Awards. The nomination for Best Science & Education Podcast Episode positions “Banishing Bias from School” as one of the five best in the world in its category — and among the top 12% of the more than 14,000 projects entered from around the world.
Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international awards organization honoring excellence on the Internet. The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS) nominates and selects The Webby Award Winners.
“Nominees like GreatSchools are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet,” said Claire Graves, Executive Director of The Webby Awards. “It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the more than 14,000 entries we received this year.”
Season three of Like a Sponge is a part of GreatSchools’ Transforming High School series, a collection of stories and videos in English and Spanish that explore practices that prepare students for success in college and beyond. Each episode delves into a single problem with high school through the eyes of a student and a high school that is attempting to solve that problem.
“Whether it’s a school coming face to face with its unintentionally racist policies or a radical rethinking of teenage learning that enables students to redesign their school from scratch, the stories we share this season offer a dose of hope salted with skepticism and data,” said Like a Sponge host and co-producer Carol Lloyd. “We’re excited that this nomination provides another opportunity for parents and educators to discover Like a Sponge, and hear stories of transformation that can be replicated in their own communities.”
As a nominee, GreatSchools is also eligible to win a Webby People’s Voice Award, which is voted online by fans across the globe. From now until Thursday, April 21, GreatSchools supporters can vote for Like a Sponge to win Best Podcast Episode in the Science & Education category. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, April 26 and honored in a star-studded show at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, where they’ll have a chance to deliver one of The Webby Awards’ famous 5-Word Speeches.
Listeners can tune in to Like a Sponge on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and all major podcast platforms. The show is distributed by Public Radio Exchange (PRX). The Transforming High School project and podcast are made possible in part with support from the Barr Foundation and Carnegie Corporation of New York.
