OAKLAND, CA (February 1, 2019) — GreatSchools today announced education leader Jon Deane will become its new Chief Executive Officer. Jon comes to GreatSchools after a long track-record as a leader in education innovation, most recently at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, where he served as Director of Education.

“The GreatSchools’ board is thrilled to have Jon lead the organization. We are proud of the work we have done for the past 20 years empowering parents with the information they need to unlock educational opportunities for their children,” said Ann Fuell, chair of GreatSchools’ Board of Directors. “Jon’s extraordinary experience as an educator, school executive, technologist, and thought leader in education philanthropies will help us uphold and strengthen our mission of supporting all parents to find the right school for their child, take action in their communities to improve schools and support their child’s learning.”

“It is an honor to lead an organization that for 20 years has always been there for parents. Parents are our children’s first teachers and are dedicated to the potential of their child more than anyone else,” said Jon Deane. “Parents deserve to have the best information about their child’s education and what a great education should look like. GreatSchools is now an essential tool in a parent’s toolkit, and I am excited to work with its great team, its stakeholders, and its partners in supporting all of our nation’s parents in their most important and sometimes most difficult job.”

Jon started his career in business, building a foundation for his leadership in and service to innovative education organizations. His record of success began in the classroom as a high school math teacher and led to serving as principal and administrative leader of high performing schools in the San Francisco Bay Area. At the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Jon led work on innovative new school models and supporting evidence-based education improvement, developing a deep understanding and connection to what educational success can look like.
