    ‘College Success Award’ recognizes high schools that excel at helping students enroll and succeed in college

    Oakland, CA (November 14, 2024) — Today, 1,436 high schools in 19 states1 have a new reason to celebrate their efforts to ensure their students are ready for higher education and future careers. The nonprofit GreatSchools announced the recipients of its 2024 College Success Award, which honors public high schools that excel at preparing students to enroll and succeed in college. College readiness is crucial for high school students’ future success as companies still overwhelmingly hire candidates with a college degree.

    A few weeks ago, many were quick to point out the four-year anniversary of the last “normal” week of our lives. Some pandemic-era reflections acknowledge the “silver linings” like more time with family, adoption of flexible work arrangements, gratitude for one’s health. With respect to education, however, it’s harder to find such perspectives, as headline after headline spotlight stunted K-12 academic achievement with serious long-term implications for a generation of learners.
