OAKLAND, CA (April 23, 2021) — Educational nonprofit GreatSchools.org, announced today that its parenting podcast, Like a Sponge, has been nominated for Best Science & Education Podcast in the 25th Annual Webby Awards. This distinction places GreatSchools’ podcast in the top 10% of the nearly 13,500 record-breaking projects entered from around the world.

Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international awards organization honoring excellence on the Internet. The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS) nominates and selects The Webby Award Winners.

Like a Sponge earned two nominations: one for Limited Podcast Series and another for Individual Podcast Episode for its Season 2, Episode 4 title, “Liar, Liar: How to Raise an Honest Child in a Post-truth Society.” Like a Sponge is GreatSchools’ podcast for parents about the science of how children learn and thrive. Each episode weaves together stories of people whose lives have been changed by specific character strengths with insights from scientists and educators. All episodes offer concrete ways that listeners can apply the science of character to the children in their lives.

“Nominees like GreatSchools are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet,” said Claire Graves, Executive Director of The Webby Awards. “It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the 13,500 entries we received this year.”

“We live in a moment when suddenly the need to raise kids who are caring, community-minded, and resilient is more obvious than ever,” said Like a Sponge host and co-producer Carol Lloyd. “We’re excited that this nomination provides another opportunity for parents to discover Like a Sponge, and learn from new research that offers a roadmap to help children grow and thrive.”

As a nominee, GreatSchools is also eligible to win a Webby People’s Voice Award, which is voted online by fans across the globe. From now until May 6, GreatSchools supporters can cast their votes for Like a Sponge in the Limited Series and Individual Episode categories.

Winners will be announced on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, and honored in a star-studded, virtual show hosted by multi-talented actress, writer, podcaster, host, and advocate Jameela Jamil.
